transitioning in Florida can be a daunting task, but with the right resources, it can be a smooth and seamless process. One of the most important things to consider when transitioning is finding a qualified healthcare provider who understands your unique needs.

In Florida, there are many great transgender health resources available to help you on your journey. Here are just a few of the best doctors in Florida for transgender people wanting to start hormones:

  • Spektrum Health is a transgender inclusive healthcare provider in Florida with locations in Tampa and Orlando. They offer gender affirming primary care, hormone therapy, mental health services, and more. They also have a Trans Care Clinic which is a safe space for trans and gender non-conforming people to receive care.
  • Tampa Family Health Centers. They offer primary care, hormone therapy, and mental health services for transgender and gender non-conforming people.
  • The University of South Florida also has a transgender health program that offers primary care, hormone therapy, and mental health services.
  • Planned Parenthood is a doctor in Florida that offers transgender services, however beware last I knew they have a strict way of doing things. That can be good or bad depending on who you are. For me it was bad, for example, I wanted estrogen patches and not pills when I signed up. They refused and sent me away for a blood check before I could even start hormones! Also after my second checkup I had obvious breast buds starting. I was so happy when I walked in and got to told the Dr my good news, that I had some boobies starting to grow. Suddenly she got all concerned and ordered me a breast ultrasound costing me an extra hour trip and $250 to have someone do that. I was so confused with their approach and attitude toward things. I couldn’t deal with that! I walked out scared and worried. I was fine and it was just normal EXPECTED boob growth. But because options can be limited and this still can be a great choice for others I added it to the list.

It is always useful to call around locally if needed as that is how I found my current Dr, although they don’t specialize in trans health, I am getting the hormones and care I need. They listen more and I can tell them what I wan’t or don’t and they listen to my concerns. I am very independent and don’t need a strict program gate keeping me from what I like or need. There are even other trans people who use Plume or similar online/telemedicine apps to start their transition. These sites are usually expensive and are telemedicine calls.
